"Cooper"
He arrived and clearly was in pain. I performed a rectal examination, where I stuck my lubricated and gloved arm up the horse's rectum to feel for an impaction or intestinal displacement or distention. I knew at once that things were bad. His large colon was distended and was not sitting where it should. This was not good news. I passed the tube and got the same oil I had put in the previous night out the tube. I explained that Cooper had probably twisted his large colon the previous night, but sometimes in the early stages it isn't obvious.
